Navigate to the Lessons tab and click on the quiz you wish to add questions to (if you have just added a quiz, you will already be where you need to be). Click the Add a Question link in the toolbar.

You will be presented with several different types of questions. The first choice, Section Heading, is not a question type, but a place to provide directions or graphics for a group of questions that follows. Section Headings also allow for using question pools (see Related Topics). You can also choose to Never scramble items between section headings. The remaining choices are question types and question duplication tools.

Sample question adding procedure:
Click the type of question you would like to add, such as Multiple Choice. Type in the Question you want to appear, then under the heading Choices, type in the answer. Click Add More to add answer choices if the five default ones are not enough. You will then need to carefully assign a point value to each. Keep in mind that once students have completed a quiz, changes in point values and answer choices are extremely difficult to make.

Note: The question types "Short Answer," "Essay," and "Off-line item" have no "Choices" field, as answers are open-ended.

Use the General Feedback field to provide a comment that should be returned to the user when the user submits the quiz. When the student is reviewing their quiz, the feedback you entered will appear following the question. This field can be used to increase the effectiveness of quizzes by providing additional information such as where the material is covered in the book.

You can use the Image URL field to upload an image, which will appear above the question text. Click Add, then in the window that pops up, click Browse to find an image on your computer, then click OK. Alternatively, if you want to display an image that is already on another web server, simply type or paste in the complete URL of the image (e.g. http://www.msu.edu/images/msu_logo.gif). You may also add images (of equations, for example) throughout your question text using HTML (see Related Topics).

When you are finished, click Save. There is a Preview link on the toolbar that allows you to view the quiz you just created just as the student will see it.
