Advanced Assessment Settings
Advanced quiz settings may be found under the various tabs when adding a quiz.
Access Tab
Internet Security: Browser Security
The Security drop down menu allows the editor to open the quiz/survey in a new browser window (using Medium setting) disabling common browser functions including menus, address bar, context menus (right-click), and the use of most control keys (Ctrl C for copy, Ctrl V for Paste, etc.).
Access Tab
Internet Security: IP Filter
You can easily restrict quiz or survey access to a specific IP address. Using the IP Filter enter the IP information as follows:
- Use commas ( , ) to separate multiple IP address entries
- Use a minus sign ( - ) to disallow the specified address
- Use a plus sign ( + ) to allow the specified address
- Use an asterisk ( * ) within an IP address as a wild card meaning all values between 0 and 255
In cases where an IP address is included in more than one entry, the most specific entry will be applied (e.g. a setting of -*.*.*.*,+207.46.249.*,-207.46.249.5) will allow access to any IP address within the 207.46.249 class C network with the exception of 207.46.249.5 which has been excluded.
The editor may optionally require the use of the ANGEL secure browser (using High setting). The ANGEL Secure Browser is available for download only to designated ANGEL administrators and is commonly installed in proctored testing lab locations.
Interaction Tab
Delivery Settings
This section allows you to enable and disable the assessment by date and time.
Display Settings: Display Mode
Specifies how questions will be displayed. All at once will show all questions on a page. You can chose to display one question set at a time using Question Set at a time or just one question at a time using Question at a time.
Question Set Defaults:
Provides a choice of randomizing questions and/or choices (answers) on an assessment
thus allowing for a more secure assessment environment. Other options prohibit the student from going back to an already
answered question or from proceeding until a question is correct. Click in the box to the left of an option to enable it.
Time Settings: Time Limit
Specify the time limit in which users should complete the quiz or survey. If a time limit is set, a pop-up window will warn the students when they begin the quiz. The default is "None", but you can set a time limit ranging from one minute to five hours. In order for the time limit to take effect, you must check the Automatically submit when time limit expires option to force the quiz or survey to be submitted when the time expires.
Note: The auto-submit feature will close the quiz, and submit students' answers. It is best to encourage students to periodically save their quiz as they are taking it to avoid the risk of losing answers.
Time Settings: Time Warning
When a time limit has been imposed this setting allows you to specify that a pop-up message should be displayed warning users of the amount of time remaining. The default is "None." This message is in addition to the initial time limit warning shown at the beginning of a quiz.
Submission Tab
Submission Settings: Anonymous
For quizzes and surveys, this check box, Make submissions anonymous, makes the item anonymous so that responses are not logged under the actual user IDs of the submitting users. If you select "Yes" for this option, the students can take a quiz and see the results, but their scores will not be saved in the grading reports. This allows instructors to design quizzes which are "self-tests" and do not count for grading. It is also recommended that the "Tracking" options in the "Settings" window be set to "None," so students' user IDs cannot be included in other activity logs. Note: ANGEL provides tools that allow the instructor to match posts with users, so be aware that submissions are not truly anonymous.
Submission Settings: Auto-save
The Auto-save drop-down menu allows you to determine if auto-saving will be disabled or how frequently a quiz will be saved. A message window displays that your item is being saved and you must acknowledge this by clicking an "OK" button. The Auto-save feature lists saved files in the Utilities, Pending Items. The actual file is saved in the Utilities, Associated File Manager, and Pending Items. Auto-save is especially nice in conjunction with the Auto Submit feature. Student data will be both saved and submitted automatically and within the time limit.
Submission Settings: Save Button
You have the option to disable or enable the Save button on a quiz. If you check the box Do not allow users to save and finish later, students cannot save their work. With the Save button enabled, a student can begin a quiz, save their work, exit the quiz and return with their completed answers intact.
Submission Settings: Validation
This setting determines whether ANGEL checks for incomplete items in a quiz. If you select the Warn about incomplete items option, then a pop-up window will appear when the student attempts to submit a quiz with an incomplete item. If you select the Do not allow incomplete items option, then students will be forced to complete all answer choices before submitting a quiz.
Review Tab
Results Review:
In combination with the related View submission history, the Feedback options option determines the level of review to which users have access.
Full Review allows the user to review the full results of the assessment upon submission, restricted only by the current Feedback options settings. In addition, upon returning to a previously submitted quiz or survey, the user will be presented with a hyperlinked list of the dates on which he or she has taken the quiz or survey. The user may click on the hyperlinked item to review the full results of the submission restricted only by the current Full Review Options settings.List Only allows the user to review a summary of the assessment upon submission, including the number of points awarded, the number of points missed, and an overall percentage score. In addition, upon returning to a previously submitted quiz or survey, the user will be presented with a list of the dates on which the user has submitted a quiz or survey and the grade for each submission (if applicable).
Disabled prevents the display of feedback upon submission of a quiz or survey and also disables the display of information regarding previously submitted quizzes and surveys.
Full Review Options
Feedback is controlled by the View submission history drop down menu. If Full Review is selected, any checked items under Feedback optionswill appear when a student submits their assessment. (You might initially select Disabled. If you want students to be able to go back and review their answers in the future you will need to reset the option to either List Only or Full Review and check the appropriate Feedback options. You can hide various aspects of student feedback in the quiz results page by un-checking (turning off) the different checkboxes. For instance, if you turn off Answer Key, the students do not see the correct answer when they view their scores. Unchecking Feedback options checkboxes can allow students to practice quiz materials multiple times without seeing the answers after the first attempt.
Automate Tab: Action Settings
Actions allow you to define actions to be taken when certain events pertaining to the item occur. Triggers allow you to specify different actions to take based on what event is happening or even based on a user's score.
Assignment Tab
Gradebook Settings
You have the option of setting gradebook options in this editor. These include points possible, category, calculation type and display format. You can click a checkbox to hide the assignment from students in the gradebook. Please refer to the Gradebook documentation for details.
