ANGEL's Discussion Forum system lets instructors set up asynchronous discussions. The instructor has access to utilities that allow grading and commenting on individual student's posts. Discussion Forums can also be accessed via the Communicate tab.

Go to the Lessons tab and click Add Content, then click Discussion Forum to enter the New Discussion Forum editor. Under the Content tab, give the Discussion Forum a Title and Directions, set the appropriate Access, Post Permissions and Assignment settings, then click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Creating a Private Discussion Forum

If you want the discussion to be just between you and one student, while you are in the New Discussion Forum editor, under the Content tab, Discussion Forum Settings, look for the Mode setting. Use the drop down selection box to change this to User Journal. These specialized discussion forums show only a student's posts and replies to those posts by the instructor. This provides the opportunity for one-on-one interaction between student and instructor.

Grading Discussion Forum Posts

To enter grades for Discussion Forum posts, click on the Utilities link in the toolbar. From the menu that appears, click on Grade Forum. Use the Grade Forum page to select the student, assignment and to enter the grade and comments for that post. Be sure to click the Submit Grades button when you are done. Students will see their score in the Grades area under the Report tab.
