General Course Settings

Quick steps:

  1. Click the Manage tab.
  2. Locate the Course Settings section.
  3. Click the General Course Settings link.
  4. Use the check boxes, blank fields and drop down menus to fill in the information on this page.
  5. Click the Save button.

This is a guide to the General Information and Access Settings presented in the General Course Settings area for your course. Click on the Manage tab and locate the Course Settings section heading. Click on the General Course Settings link to enter the Course Settings editor.

Section ID: This is automatically assigned by the ANGEL system

Title: ANGEL will give your course a title, but you can alter it to make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

Instructor ID: This is automatically assigned by the ANGEL system. It is typically the MSU NetID of the Instructor of Record.

Instructor Name: This is automatically assigned by the ANGEL system.

Category:This is automatically assigned by the ANGEL system.

Keywords: You can put in keywords to help people search for your course in ANGEL. (Optional)

Description: Here you can enter a detailed description of your course. (Optional)

Course Begins: This is where you set the Begin date of your course. This defaults to the semester your course will be run. (if it's an official course offering space) Be sure to click in the check box. If it is not checked, the date is not effective.

Course Ends: This is where you set the End date of your course. This defaults to the semester your course will be run. (if it's an official course offering space) Be sure to click in the check box. If it is not checked, the date is not effective.

Stylesheet: This is the URL for your course stylesheet. This is automatically assigned by the ANGEL system. If you use a stylesheet of your own, you would link to it here.

Redirect URL: Here you can enter a URL to redirect students to another location for the course. This isn't recommended unless you are an advanced user.

Redirect Target: For use with Redirect URL.

Access Settings determine who has access to your course.

Member Access: This is best setup as the default All Members to allow student access. Editors Only does not allow students in the course.

Guest Access: This should at least be setup as Authenticated. This means only people with MSUNet Ids be permitted guest access to your course. If you don't want anyone not enrolled to access your course, choose None.

Search Engines: This will determine whether you allow people using the ANGEL search engine to search for your course.
