Read more:

Macros can be used to map a non-numeric grade to a numeric grade. For instance, a macro could be created to map an 'A' to 95%. This would allow you to enter 'A' into the grade entry page and the gradebook will display the grade as 95% and use 95% for all of its calculations.

In the left column, enter a Filter (non-numeric grade), and in the right, enter a Percent. After clicking Save, any grades entered using one of the macros on the left will be mapped to the percentage entered on the right, allowing the grade to be used for normal calculations. To delete a macro, click on the Delete button to the right of the macro. To edit a macro, click on the Edit button to the right of the macro. After saving the first macro, you can enter more and then click the Add New button.

The macro percent is the percentage that a macro will be mapped to. This percentage will be multiplied by the assignment's points yielding a score for the item, allowing all normal calculations to be done on the grade.
