Types of Questions

  1. Multiple Choice—Presents users with a question followed by a list of choices. Only one choice may be selected.
  2. Drop-down List—Presents users with a question followed by a drop-down list of choices. Only one choice may be selected.
  3. Multiple Select—Presents users with a question followed by a list of choices. Multiple selections are allowed.
  4. True False—Presents users with a statement that they must determine to be either true or false.
  5. Calculated questions—Presents users with a pseudo-randomly chosen version of a question that includes mathematical expressions and requires calculation.

Additional question types that are graded online (instructor provides predefined answers) are:

  1. Matching—Presents users with a definition and a pull-down list of terms from which they must choose a match.
  2. Ordering—Presents users with a list of items to be placed in the correct sequenced.
  3. Fill-in-the-blank—Presents users with a question followed by a single-line answer box. Responses are automatically graded against a list of allowed answers. In order to match an allowed answer, the student must type the exact answer.
  4. Fill-in-multiple-blanks—Presents users with a question followed by multiple single-line answer boxes. Responses are automatically graded against a list of allowed answers.

Additional question types that are graded offline:

  1. Short answer—Presents users with a question followed by a single-line answer box into which students can type several words. Responses must be manually graded.
  2. Essay—Presents users with a question followed by a multiple-line answer area. Responses must be manually graded.
  3. Offline Item—Presents users with a question to be completed offline (no answer field appears). Responses must be manually graded. Then the grade is entered using the "Ungraded Items Agent".
  4. Pool Item—A pool item question is selected based on criteria that you provide. As you create questions in a quiz, you have the advanced option to add a keyword(s) and/or difficulty to a question. Using this keyword and/or difficulty criteria provides a search mechanism to access questions in your course or any Resource Library associated with your course to pull these questions into your quiz.
